It’s March. Supposedly!
Chores must be done ANYWAY.
Step 1. Put on 10,285 layers of clothing.
Step 2. Use lighter to thaw gate latch to enter barn yard without climbing over the gate.
Step 3. Toss hay.
Step 4. Carry buckets and buckets and buckets and buckets of water for the animals from the house because everything in the barn yard is frozen.
Step 5. Move to Hawaii!

I wondered how bad it was in WV . . . now I know.
Hawaii does not have enough chickens, I think you’d do well there. 😆

To GA in GA: My sister has been to Hawaii several times and she’s said the chickens are all over the place and just run wild! I gotta agree though – Hawaii sounds pretty darn good right about now!

In the books, winter is always the season when the farmer gets to rest, sitting around mending harness and reading seed catalogs. Another myth shot to heck.

Yeah, Hawaii is full of “wild” chickens. The story I heard while there is that a BIG storm came through and blew down the chicken coops. A bunch of surviving chickens decided they liked the wild life and with all the greenstuff & bugs & such they made out just fine on their own.
Key West Florida is also full of wild chickens. The roosters strut around town with their harems and chicks. Periodically they get so overwhelmed they hire chicken ranglers to capture them and remove them from the Keys. Lots of video on YouTube and here’s an article if you’re interested https://www.floridarambler.com/florida-getaways/key-west-chickens-key-west-roosters/.

I don’t know your situation but I hope this helps. We keep a heat tape wrapped around the pipe coming up out of the ground where we pump water for our animals. If we don’t do this, then we can’t lift the pump handle because it freezes. As long as the heat tape is on it, it does not freeze.

Shipping for livestock cost prohibitive. Buy more clothing and wait till spring. Can’t be that far off.
