Tillie Lays An Egg Giveaway!

Oct
29

People are always telling me I should write a children’s book. I’m not that together, but Terry Golson is! Terry Golson is a professional cook and food writer. I’ve had her Farmstead Egg Cookbook for a long time–see it gracing my kitchen window in this post from 2008. She makes the most adorable books! She’s also something of a “chicken celebrity” because of her popular HenCam. (She has a GoatCam, too!)

I didn’t know all that. I just had her cute little egg cookbook. Then one day Martha Stewart was doing an episode on chickens and I saw her on there talking about her Tillie Lays An Egg book. AND THEN. The other day, someone asked a question about chickens, and Terry–who knows a lot more about chickens than I do–left a comment on my blog! IT WAS ALMOST LIKE MARTHA WAS HERE. Anyway! That was a gigantic mistake because, of course, I pounced right on top of her, tied her up, and locked her in a closet until she agreed to give away a copy of Tillie Lays An Egg to one of you! (“Unlike the other hens at Little Pond Farm, Tillie isn’t one to wait her turn to lay her eggs. And she’s certainly not one to stay cooped up all day. Off she goes!”) Okay, honestly, I just begged a little bit, and she was nice enough to agree. (I’m so excited!)

If you’d like to be in the draw for Terry Golson’s children’s book, Tillie Lays An Egg, just leave a comment on this post letting me know you want it! This giveaway will remain open through Sunday, October 31, at 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern time. One winner will be drawn by random comment number to receive the book. The winner’s name and comment number will be posted shortly thereafter in an update at the bottom of this post. Return to this post to see if you won and claim your book.

You can read all the details and a book summary about Tillie Lays An Egg here. Be sure to also visit Terry’s HenBlog and Facebook. She even has ringtones available of her animals. (Can you believe that? I told you she was together!)

P.S. If you aren’t the lucky comment number drawn to win the book here, you can still buy it.

Okay, should I untie her now?

UPDATE 10/31/10: The winning comment number, drawn by random.org, is #98, heidiannie. Email me at CITRgiveaways(at)yahoo.com with your full name and address for shipping!

THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED TO ENTRY.

My neighbor’s 6 year old recently accompanied me to our barn. She helped me feed the horses, taking care of our blind pony, Pockets, all by herself. Then she carefully collected the eggs, a white one from Agnes and a blue/green one from Gertrude (Gladys Kravitz isn’t laying her brown eggs right now) and then helped me pick green beans.

I would love to win a copy of “Tillie Lays an Egg” to give to her!

Yes, Suzanne, My grandchildren and I would love to have this book. I grew up with chickens on the farm. It was my job to collect and wash the eggs. We had a hen that would bite me. I broke a few eggs trying to get them out fast before getting picked on the back of my hand. I still live on a farm, but no longer have animals. I am retired. I miss the “good ole days” of the animals. I love your website. Thank you for sharing your time with us all.

My family has always been full of big readers, so when my husband and I found out we had an absolute miracle bless us, (he had cancer when he was 15 and lost his leg and it gave him a 2% sperm count from the chemo) we will be having a baby in may even though Vanderbilts cancer specialists told him he would never be a daddy. The first thing I did was start collecting baby books I would LOVE to win it. Really hope I win, cant wait to read to my baby. (We also just bought a new house and I have the two things I have wanted more than anything since I moved out of my parents house, a deep freezer and a pantry :D he thinks im wierd but he loves me anyway haha.) Thanks for everything you do Suzanne, Including kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment haha!

I’m loving the live view of a barnyard. last year I had a link to a bear den in Minnesota and tuned in every day to watch a pregnant bear in her den during the winter. she slept most of the time but it was very interesting to watch her spring arousal.
I think Tillie Lays an Egg looks like it would be a wonderful gift for someone so yes, I’ll try my luck at winning it. thank you to Terry and to you Suzanne for such a splendid giveaway.

What a great giveaway. When I found Terry’s hencam and blog nearly a year ago, I was fascinated – as I was with yours! I read every post starting from the beginning, and found a ton of REALLY good info on raising and caring for chickens, and even helping sick ones. …Anyway, I purchased Tillie Lays an Egg for my grandson in the spring, and he loves it. (But the pictures alone are reason to buy one for yourself… if you don’t win one here.)

Just thought I’d comment here pass on the *thumbs up* on “Tillie Lays an Egg” from my 4 year old grandson. Don’t count my number if it comes up in the random pick. Someone else should have the opportunity.

I would like to have a chance to get a copy of tillie lays an egg. :hissyfit: My grandchildren have been begging me to write a childrens book. LOve your site and I am thankful to you for changing our lives.I started reading your blog years ago and started my own managery. :sheepjump: :chicken: Since reading, watching you carve out homespun life, with a spoonfuls of food delights, a dose of humor all the while wrapped in soft cuddles to heal the soul. Thanks for bringing me back ful circle to a more peaceful, slower, old fashioned way of living. Where less is more, simple is golden. :fairy: My very sick grandson (31+ food catagory, preservatives allgeries=very little he can eat.) has just learned to read. This would be a true heavensent cherrished cache to him, as his favorite thing to do is collect the daily eggs. He has been sick since 1 year old, now he is eight. The fresh air and farm activities have helped him so much since spring. But tonight is sick again and headed back to specialist at first of week. His Favorite book– old Henny Penny book from the 60’s I have enjoyed how you involved a captive audience in the naming of animals. Also giving each of us the red carpet treatment into your written treasures. Thanks and good luck to all. Margie from brie turkey in the blackberry patch Virginia

    Thanks, Suzanne!
I love reading to children. I think I have as many children’s books as I have for myself ( who am I kidding? those children’s books are for my enjoyment as well as for the kids!)
This is a great give away- ALL of your giveaways are thoughtful and appreciated!
Thanks for the book and the lovingly informative blog.

My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
