WHAT IS THAT?!
This chicken, one I hatched from my incubator this year from my own chicken eggs, just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
Here is what that chicken looked like a month ago.
At the time, I thought it looked like a part-Turken because it appeared to almost have a naked neck. My original chickens, the ones I hatched out of my incubator last year, came from eggs that were mixed breeds. I knew the farm they came from had a few Turkens. So when it came out of my incubator, from those chickens, I thought it must have some Turken in it.
Only its neck isn’t naked now.
Oh no, not naked at all.
In fact, it’s covered up with feathers. Almost too many feathers. And it’s getting more all the time!
Can it even SEE?????
Is it going to explode?
And if it does, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO THEN?!

where did you get your first batch of eggs??? it looks like an Aurucana or Americana cross of some sort – it doesnt look like a ‘Polish’ – no offense anyone that is a kind of chicken with a fuzzy head of feathers…..

I made the husband look at your mystery bird. He agrees w/ Heidi about the Amerucana/Aurucana and he thinks it may have a bit of Salmon Favorella. Who knows, it’s an interesting look!

If it has extra toes, it’s a silkie, salmon favorelle or polish mix. It’s cute.

She certainly has one of the polish breeds in her. Most likely the product of the “rare breed chick” that gets thrown in to some hatchery orders. I thinks she’s cute.

Awwww, I love her muffs and beard! I have one Easter Egger that is more of a pet and I love to stroke her beard. It is so soft. You little girl is just adorable. 🙂

Probably would not be a good idea to let it free range, because it is an easy target for a critter. https://feathersite.com/ has a ton of pictures. https://www.kippengrabbelton.be/engels/ is another site that has a bunch of pictures. I have noticed with our chickens that they look different–I was starting to think one of the hens was really a rooster until she got out of the nestbox.

You seem to be very resourceful, Suzanne, and find something practical to do with all your resources. If your odd chicken should explode — or do anything else un-chickenlike — there is always the dehydrator to experiment with further.

No, she doesn’t have an extra toe. She has the beard and muff like an Americana, but also something of a crest (which Americanas don’t have), though nothing comparable to the crest of something like a Polish. (I’m pretty sure it’s a hen, though not positive.)

Yeah…those cheeks look familiar. I have Americanas, and they’re fluffy cheeked, too. Very silly yet exotic looking! Not sure, either, about that crest, but I love that she’s white! I want to breed my white Americana, but she’s too young to lay just yet.

Looks like it might be an EE (Easter Egger) and crossed with possibly a Houdan. Just a guess.
S/he is adorable.
It will be nice to see what it looks like when it’s full grown. 😀

I think it could be a Sultan/Easter Egger cross. Or possibly a white Polish/Easter Egger cross. Maybe it’s a Sultan crossed with a white Ameraucana. It looks like it has a pea comb, so it couldn’t be an faverolle cross or it would have a straight comb or a v-comb like crested birds have. What kind of feet and legs does it have? If it’s an easter egger cross it will have green legs. If it has Silkie in it, it will have five toes most likely…faverolles also have five toes.

Some Aurc/amer cross’s have that tuff on top – not sure why. I worked for the Mn. State zoo in Apple Valley – we raised purebred’s for the farm exhibit, but when you crossed them with ANYTHING else, they got that tuft on top – freak of nature I say!!! LOL
