Heritage Days

Today, after everyone milked the cow, we went to Heritage Days (combined with Grandparents Day) at the little school in town where I displayed:

–Wool from our sheep
–Hand-dipped candles
–Homemade hard cheese
–Milk from our cow
–Homemade butter
–Corn cob jelly and tomato butter
–Homemade soap
–Farm-fresh multi-colored eggs

I had the kids touching the raw fleece to feel the lanolin. The butter display was a demonstration with kids shaking the jars as they went by–pretty soon we had butter, but they kept shaking for two hours as they came by then opening the jar with amazement to see the butter inside.

This was absolutely adorable, watching the kids touching the raw wool, handling the soap and candles, awed by the process of making butter. I also had corn cob jelly and tomato butter available for taste-testing.

It was so much fun!!

Then we (me and my company here as we prepare for the party–CindyP and Natalie) stopped by the old farmhouse to visit Georgia and take a tour!

It’s the eve before THE BIG PARTY. We’re making our lists and checking them twice and getting ready for BIG FUN tomorrow!! (There will be a LOT of pictures!) I’ll update as I can.

Satisfaction on those beautiful childrens faces when they discovered butter! Having had a cow when our children were small brings back memories. Suzanne, wish we could be there, but your pictures are so colorful and the food always looks so delicious. Wish CA was closer! How nice to have helpers, too. Make Memories and enjoy the day!

I’m glad that you all had such a great day, and I’m pleased that Little had vacated the egg basket befor the demonstration! Looking forward to seeing and reading all about adventures on the farm tomorrow – and REALLY sorry that it’s pretty much impossible for me to attend. I’ll be there in spirit though! I’m certain that it’ll be a huge success.
