Cookie Dough

My refrigerator is full of cookie dough–ready, willing, and able to be baked at the drop of a hat. Pictured are the following cookie doughs:

Drunken Rum Cookie Logs
Snickerdoodles
Peanut Butter Cookies
Chocolate Ecstasies
Snowball Cookies (regular, not chocolate)
Molasses Cookies (Clover’s favorite)
Gingerbread Cookies

I haven’t posted the Chocolate Ecstasies cookie recipe yet, but I’ll do that soon. It’s one of our favorites.

Christmas is so much about cookies for some reason. When I think back to the Christmases of my childhood, the COOKIES are one of the aspects that stand out. Oddly, I don’t bake the cookies my mother baked at Christmas. I wasn’t a big fan, as I got older, of the cookies she baked. Same ones every year, of course. I think I liked them when I was little–I must have. But they weren’t cookies I loved as an adult. (Ranger cookies, for instance. I am not a fan of Ranger cookies. They’re okay. Just not a favorite.) But the exact cookies don’t really matter. It was that she was in there every year baking up a storm of cookies. She also made some kind of weird pink candy that nobody really liked that much. And there was always the fruit cake. And nobody really liked that either….

But none of that mattered. And probably the exact cookies I bake don’t matter either. They’re all going to grow up and say, stupid peanut butter cookies, nobody liked them.

But she baked them for us.

I’ll take that.

P.S. In response to requests, I’ve posted the Ranger Cookies recipe at Farm Bell Recipes here AND I’ve also posted the Chocolate Ecstasies recipe.

And they will treasure those memories of those peanut butter cookies and someday tell their children about them…

LOL! Glad I am not the only one with a refrig full of cookie dough 🙂 You should see mine.

yeah…I wonder why we do this to ourselves. Christmas is my brandy-laced fruitcake for me, but no one else wants it. My kids don’t like gingerbread anything & complain when I make molasses cookies…although they ALL gobble them right down…they want chocolate chip cookies. I seldom ever make them, not sure why.
So tell us, what are Ranger cookies? I’ve never heard of them.

I am now wondering what Ranger Cookies are too. Can you share the recipe just for giggles?
I don’t do much baking, I probably should…wait, maybe not, I’m supposed to be losing weight!
I sure love cookies though, any kind. Probably why I need to lose the weight!

It’s funny you say that. Earlier today, I was thinking about which cookies I’m going to make this year, and I really had to make a conscious effort to think beyond the cookies my mom always made. Over the years, I’ve stopped making the cookies I didn’t really care for, but I’ve never replaced them with new ones. This year, I’m making Spritz (my childhood favorites), Reindeer Cookies, Double Chocolate Snowball Cookies, Spicy Molasses Cookies, and Chocolate-Dipped Trees.

Oh, and as I was writing this, I realized I forgot about my mom’s stuffed Christmas Stocking Cookies. I’ll probably make those, too. I should add that recipe to Farm Bell. They’re awesome.

    You’re prepared!! That’s awesome!!

Suzanne, you’d be proud of me!
Today I did two batches of canning – I made canned cranberry sauce and orange marmalade.
I ALSO made two batched of soap! One coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, hazelnut oil, cocoa butter, and grapeseed oil batch of soap for general use and one shea butter, coconut oil, castor oil, and sweet almond oil batch that I’m spooning into mugs and gifting with badger shaving brushes to the men in my family! I think they’ll be a big hit!! 🙂

Thanks for teaching me how to do this awesome stuff. It makes gift giving just THAT much more fun! :snuggle:

How big is your refrigerator, Suzanne?

Well, I’m thinking the next few days will bring the perfect opportunity to clear those fridges of unbaked cookie dough. That’s my plan. BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES! ‘Course, I think everyone had the same idea. Just try to find a chocolate chip or green sprinkle in the grocery! Cashier said that they’d had a run on anything baking. I started candy yesterday…buckeyes and Take 5 nuggets. I made up a recipe for the Take 5 because I like the candy bar so much. Not sure what started the candy thing..but I remember last year by the time I made everyone’s favorite cookie I realized that my cookie trays looked awfully “brown” so I thought that sprinkling in some peanut clusters, buckeyes etc. would liven things up a bit [NOTE: also brown]. I will throw in some chocolate covered pretzel sticks with those larger white, red and green sprinkles. Well, I think I’m ready for the storm I have collected all the necessary items to provide the next Greyhound bus that stops by with Christmas cookies for every passenger…now watch, we’ll lose power LOL

My mom always made a cutout cookie that was kind of hard and blah. We, of course, ate them all, if only for the icing. I realized years later that the recipe was from WWII and used ingredients you could get with rationing plus she overcooked them. Still, I’d give almost anything to have her back baking those pieces of cardboard.

You are so ambitious. I’m sitting here right now eating a cheesecake cookie ~ your recipe Suzanne. It is the most requested cookie I’ve ever baked. I think it has become one of my faves too.

    Peanut Butter are my favorite!

  12. Barbee' says:

Suzanne, maybe your mom was making the cookies that her mom made. Maybe she was reliving her childhood memories through those cookies. It’s hard to break out of that pattern.
