The picket fencing is SO CUTE.
Picket fencing makes me happy.
I’m working on the painting now. (I’m doing the painting myself.)
I’ve got the first coat on the gate posts. The gates were removed to make painting easier. I’ll finish up today and the gates will go back on, along with the lights on top. (The lights are solar, and just slide into a hole drilled at the top of each post.) The driveway was graded a little yesterday to make way to open the gates inward instead of outward. (I thought that would look better.) Then I’ll start painting the support posts on the picket fencing. But other than those details, the fencing-in of the house and studio grounds is complete. Today, on to the other fields! (I’ve got three other people here today to fence. Dave and Matt are back on the studio.)

I bet Matt and Dave are glad you have a tractor to help out with some of the farm jobs. It’s been my observation that most men like to play with the “big toys”. 😀

The fence looks great – glad you decided to use it – nice that it was in the barn waiting for you to decide where it needed to go :happyflower:

The fencing looks great! Good idea on the gates opening “in”. I don’t know how much room you left between the road and the fence, but doing it this way, if the gates are closed when you get home you don’t have to park in the road to open them. We have been working on field fences too. One more (I hope that is all!) roll of woven wire and we can let the goats into the woods where they can get at the green briers and other nasty weeds. One of these days the hills will be alive with the sound of baby goats. :happyflower:

Coco coming home today? I love picket fences. I have a little redwood one on the side of my patio. Just finished restaining it and the gazebo. All spruced up for spring. 😀

The folks who sold you the farm left you some great stuff! All those tools, fencing and a great farm too. I’m sure as you discover more and more of the goodies left behind you think very kindly of them. That tractor that scares you so much has been a real help. Hopefully you’ll feel up to using it yourself someday. Everything is looking so neat and so beautiful at the farm. As all the spring flowers start blooming, I’m sure you’ll hardly believe you’re living on such a nice farm. I’m so happy for you!

I’ve never had a fence like that, but I will share and pass along something a neighbor once told me which might be helpful to others. He said that his palings rotted right where the wooden pieces touched and held moisture, i.e., where the palings came in contact with the run of support members. He said from then on he would paint the palings all over before he nailed them to the fence.

The finishing touch to the white picket fenced farmhouse will be hollyhocks. DO plant hollyhocks, pretty please. And then set out a tea table laden with your baked treats, field flowers in vases, and…well, then it would be complete. (smile)
