This little project here is courtesy of whoever decided it would be fun to drive down the gate to my field up on the ridge. The gate is padlocked. They wanted to drive up in the field to do donuts in their truck, so they drove the gate down. I’m hoping that did some damage to their vehicle, but apparently they didn’t mind. My neighbor discovered the gate down and told me about it, and I had my hired men up there with the tractor to fix the situation. First, they used the tractor to bend the gate back into some semblance of normalcy. (This prevented having to purchase a new gate.) I bought the heaviest chains I could buy and this time not only chained the gate on the side where it was padlocked but also chained the gate to the post on the other side, with another padlock.

When they drove the gate down, they pushed it so hard, they pulled the pins right out of the post. They will have a harder time if they try again because of the chain.

P.S. My power was out yesterday! It’s not even power outage season (winter) yet!

😕 Hope it doesn’t happen again.

They do stupid stuff like that in my area too. For some unknown reason, it’s fun to drive into a field that is just sprouting it’s wheat crop, or drive out into a corn field, once the stalks are a few feet tall. I don’t get it.

    Sorry you had troubles

Unfortunately, and I don’t know why, when you live in the country and have woods to hunt in, and fields that you use, there seems to be a draw to the respectfully deficient, value challenged, I’ll do what I want to when I want to people. Yes, that was a mouthful, but I’m trying to be nice here. Believe me, I’ve been more expletive when I’ve found my gates crashed, my ginseng and golden seal plots robbed, my pond littered with trash when people sneak in to fish on posted property…. I could rant for days about the wanton stupidity of these idiots! Respect seems to be lost to more and more……
I’d place boards with nails just inside the gate, or where the animals won’t step on them, for the next time they want to have some fun at your expense.

Do I know from nasty, irresponsible people?! Yup. I live on a little (three property) road between two main highways…perfect for those who wish to dump unwanted pets, garbage etc. On the west field, I’ve had neighbours do “truck donuts” in the crop and drive errant cows into the crop just to be mean! PEOPLE!!!!

  6. Cheryl LeMay says:

I hope you reported it to the police. I would also get one of those game trail cameras and hide it near there. Hopefully you will catch them and their plate number.

  7. Glenda says:

I like the idea of a game camera! However, speaking of bad people, you have to wonder if you reported anyone would there be more serious repercussions. It is sad we have to think like this but it is a fact of life.

Let’s hope they get bored and give up. I am surprised they don’t carry heavy-duty bolt cutters.

  8. Sue, a Florida Farm Girl says:

Why does there have to be idiots like that wasting good air? But then, their pea brains don’t seem to grasp much, do they? Sorry you’ve got to deal with this mess.

  9. margiesbooboo says:

It probably wasn’t their vehicle. When we lived out in the country, on 2 separate occasions, we found stolen vehicles. So I do hope it was reported. Maybe there’s a policeman that will connect the dots

  10. DeniseS says:

So sorry to hear about your gate, and the idiots who think they can destroy your property. The trail camera sounds like a great idea.

  11. holstein woman says:

They did a good job straightening it.. Really sorry some one had to be mean to you and your equipment.

Sounds like some morons that were high, drunk, stupid or all combine. Some people have absolutley regard for other folks property, and it sound they don’t care much about their own either, there has to be a good bit of damage to their vehicle, that is if it belonged to them.
We have a woods behind our property, we had some idots want to drive through our property and set up a deer stand at the edge of our land, I advised them if they tried, they would have t carry their truck out because there would be no tires left to drive on.
