The name’s Frank. Wrangling sheep is his game.
Okay, actually, Frank is game for anything. He’s 75 and very spry. He lives across the river and you can call on him for anything. We asked him to come over and help us give the sheep some shots.
Other vignettes from today:
Chickens, investigating the growing woodpile.
Donkey (Poky), rubbing her back.
Corn and more corn (which I’m freezing for winter).
Getting ready to make more corn cob jelly.
Making soap.
Breaking into my first wheel of homemade cheddar.
Dinner with homemade cheddar in Summer Vegetable Pie.
View from the porch.
Cat in a box.
Good night!
Cindy in Kansas says:
Uhhhhh, those certainly don’t look like the arms of a 75 year old. How do you get arms like that, do you think? Not playing around on a keyboard, that’s for sure.

There is no way those arms belong to some one who is over 25. God bless him.

Glad I wasn’t the only one looking at those arms….75 going on 40 maybe?! I guess it’s the country living!

Frank works out. EVERY DAY. Working out for Frank is working on his property (a couple hundred acres). He never stops.

Hubba hubba! What to say about those arms! I join the ranks of the disbelieving….that man cannot be 75! I had to go back and look at ’em a second time! :devil2:
Seriously, I absolutely love the way you portray your world. The photos are always great and your narrative is so engaging and somehow…familiar. So much commonality among us, yours is such a friendly voice!

OK – I admit, I, too, was looking at Frank’s arms – I also can’t believe his is that OLD!!! I love the looks of your homemade cheddar, and your vegetable pie – Yummy! Did you get ALL of that corn from you garden!? Thanks for sharing your evening with us here in cyber-space-blogging-world. Take care, from KY, where it is a beautiful evening with a great breeze blowing thru the windows.

LOL! Before I read anything I thought “52’s got some arms, wears a cowboy hat and has a tattoo…imagine that!” LOL!
Yes, I don’t think a keyboard will give anyone arms like that…some muscular finger maybe!
Suzanne, you wore me out with your day….it’s Labor Day weekend…. that means a break from Labor, not a marathon!

It looks like a good day, a very full day, with a lovely reward at the end. In my mind’s eye I’m sitting on one of the rocking chairs on your porch with a cat in my lap, sipping an iced tea, watching the goats and listening to the low brrrk, brrrk of the chickens. What could be better?
Oh, and, uh, is there a MRS Frank? Just askin’.

I spent my day busy too… more elderberries…they seem very prolific this year….pie & wine!!! Don’t get your soap & your vegetable pie mixed up…that could be a disaster….looks like a perfect day & Frank is lookin’ pretty {{{HOT}}} from what I can see.
Also…I was reading around on the web last night looking for a sumac jelly recipe & came across a corn cob jelly made from the dry red cobs of field corn, I thought it sounded pretty good & may try it..I want to try your’s too.

Well, if there is a Mrs. Frank…I’m sure she would just agree with the rest of us that those are some awesome looking arms attached to that man!

:happyflower: Well, I wouldn’t have believed those arms belonged to a 75 year old man either-if I didn’t know my 84 yr old neighbor just kayaked the totaled distance-I think 25 miles-around Manhattan Island,New York City in a race-and the bottom of it has incredible currents and waves from barges and ships!! :woof: That’s what good, hard, clean country living can do for you!! :sun: :cowsleep:
P.S.Frank–you are HOT—sizzle!!!!!! :smilerabbit:

Mountain Woman, maybe you should come to the party and meet Frank! I invited him!

Suzanne, now if Mountain Woman and Frank made a couple then you would of course have to throw the wedding at your house since you were responsible! I’m thinking early summer….clover could be the maid of honor 🙂

My dad turned 77 this last Thursday and he has a physique just like Frank. Not as tan, mind you, but he is out and about working on his few acres of property every day. I also thought…Suzanne, you slipped and revealed 52s first name! Then the next sentence revealed the fact that 52 is still safely a mysterious man.
Isn’t that cat in the box a happy and contented kitty!! Look at the smile.
Like CindyP said, it’s a take a rest from labor weekend not a labor all weekend. You wear me out.

Hi Suzanne, I’m just catching up on the week-end posts and was reminded of a question (since you asked in a more recent post). How do you store your empty canning jars? We’ve recently moved and I’m trying to find a good way. My mom’s way isn’t conducive to our space and, seeing the picture of jars, was curious how you store yours? Thanks!
PS Saying that Frank is ’75 and very spry’ looks like the biggest understatement ever, holy cow!
On September 5, 2010 at 11:00 pm
Suzanne McMinn says:
Gen, storing empry canning jars is a problem! Usually at this time of year when I’m canning quite often, I’m storing them on the kitchen table and the countertops as I’m expecting to be using them. The ones not in use and not expected to be needed (any time soon) are in boxes. I would very much like to change that. I want to get shelving built in our basement area for more storage, including storage of canning jars, so they’re more accessible than having to dig through boxes to find the ones I need (right size). So, in short, I’m not there yet on having that organized well.

I haven’t seen many 75-year old men (or some much younger)look as good as Frank! He must be doing something right.
How did the cheese taste? I haven’t made any hard cheese yet. Yours looks perfect. I will be revisiting that post.
