Apartment Living

I’m back! I’ll have a further report on Power School graduation when I get a chance, but for now–here is Ross after graduation at his first apartment. Upon graduation from Power School, they are booted out of the barracks and have to get an apartment during the prototype phase of their training. (Prototype will last for six months, and he will be going to prototype in South Carolina. After prototype, he will be assigned to a nuclear ship/submarine–he volunteered for submarine duty, so is expecting to most likely be assigned to a sub, but won’t know for sure until he gets his orders at the end of prototype.)

He has a chair and a “coffee table”.

And “glasses” in his cabinet. I cracked up when I opened this cabinet.

Then of course I had to look in his “silverware” drawer.

Oh, to be young!

See now that’s good thinking! I would have gone to Goodwill and bought a bunch of used stuff. And THEN I would have been stuck doing dishes. Plastic – problem solved! Good luck to Ross and I hope he has a nice stay at home.

  2. twiggityNDgoats says:

Well I guess there is not point in acquiring “stuff” if you’re going to be living on a submarine soon ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. michellewillingham says:

I’m guessing he doesn’t like doing dishes? But now you have ideas on what to get him for Christmas. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Flowerpower says:

I know you are very proud of him and all your kids! If you ask me…he’s danged smart. Can you remember starting to keep house? You make do…and that’s exactly what he is doing!! You go Ross!!

Just a word from mmhoney. get an airmatress and the floor never felt so good. You are not ready to be collecting a lot of clutter.
Just remember your closet space in the Sub. shrinks every day you are at sea. Just leave room for your mail. Good Luck

He does have an air mattress in his bedroom! I didn’t take a pic of that, LOL. He will not be acquiring any furniture or other things because in six months, he will get orders to go somewhere else and may be living on a ship/submarine and would have to put anything he bought in storage. He IS being smart, though if it was me, I would probably at least rent some furniture because I couldn’t live like that for six months! But he’s very frugal and doesn’t plan to even rent anything.

      • Suzanne McMinn says:

I had to go look again to see what you meant! Yes, there is a bug on the counter, LOL. SC is so full of bugs! He does have a roommate, actually, so that is two of them living like that! The chair is Ross’s, though, LOL. His roommate doesn’t even have a chair!

  6. STracer says:

Hey, it looks like he has a roommate too! Sitting on the kitchen counter isn’t very nice though. Probably won’t pay much on the rent either.
Congrats Ross, enjoy your visit home. Thanks for bringing the nice weather with you!

    Congratulations Ross!

Suzanne: It’s an amazing thing to see our little boys turn into MEN! Ross now ‘looks’ like a man

The apartment reminds me of my first one except I had two each of cutlery. My table was a piece of plywood placed atop four beer boxes (bottles included for strength)! since I had no chairs it was only one box high!!! It worked, and sitting crosslegged is good for stretching those inner thighs!!

Congratulations Ross. love your apartment – very neat and ship shape. Suzanne he is definitely a young man of which to be proud.

  9. Cheryl LeMay says:

It reminded me of my first apartment too! I had a dresser made from cardboard(I think it was purchased at a dept store like Sears) and for end tables I upended cardboard boxes and covered them with contact paper.Of course all my silverware, dishes and pans were castoffs from family members. Ross is a thinking man – he’s looking ahead.Good for him. It’s an exciting time in life for him.

  10. TwistedStitcher says:

That is awesome! He also has a flag, so technically, he did decorate.

  11. Sonia says:

I had to chuckle and grin at the glassware and silverware. Reminds me of my brother, and he is not even in the military. It must be a guy thing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Leah says:

Ross looks very handsome in his uniform. I remember me and the kids fighting over a beanbag chair before I found us a couch way back when.

  13. Dlinkous says:

This looks like the townhomes I lived in when I first moved to Charleston – we actually lived in Hanahan…can’t remember the name of the townhomes, but I’d recognize it if I saw it again. All I remember is that it was off of Rivers, down a wind-y road and near a nice little lake. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love Charleston – miss it alot! ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Liz Pike says:

Priceless!! Love the “silverware” dumped in the drawer!!
