Real

I would have told this story yesterday, but our power was out all day from the storms. We’ve had just about nothing but rain here for the past month. Anyway! Monday evening, I was sitting on the front porch with a glass of wine chatting on the phone to my boyfriend and a green Jeep came slowly down the road then turned in at my driveway.

Now, I live in the boonies, okay. At the end of the road. I don’t get a lot of random traffic here.

The vehicle stopped halfway up the driveway and a man got out of the Jeep and started walking up the bank to the front yard.

I said, “Can I help you?”

He said: “A co-worker showed me your website and I live near here so she wanted me to find out if it was real.”

Me: “There are the cows, there are the goats, there are the chickens, there are the horses.”

Green Jeep Man: “And there’s the barn. I guess it’s real.”

Me: “Yes. And here’s me. I’m real.” I was still sitting in the rocking chair on the porch, and he was still walking toward me. “And I’m just relaxing on my porch and I’m not wearing any pants.”

The man started backing up.

Me: “And that’s really real.”

Green Jeep Man kept backing up. “I’m sorry!”

Me: “It’s okay. Stop by sometime when I’m wearing pants!”

Real.

I’m real, too. Just be glad I’m not posting a picture of me without pants to prove it.

l.o.l. Life is strange. Look like million bucks, in a cute outfit and you never see anyone. Have a bad hair day, no makeup or in your case, no pants, and company comes calling. Must be one of Murphy’s Laws in operation. Strange that someone thought your farm and posts were not real.

Here is the real lowdown on Suzanneā€™s visitor… Iā€™m his coworker and a long time reader of CITR. We work together in a concrete jungle in an industry that has a terrible contagious case of ā€œaffluenzaā€. Iā€™ve always known the Suzanne and the blog were very much for real. It is my daily escape to read about the farm happenings and plan my future escape to a (hopefully) similar life. He happened to be looking over my shoulder one day a recognized that the pictures looked a lot like home. He talks about the area, his family, and his longing to retire and get back to his farm ā€œa couple hollers overā€ from Suzanne. His family has a long and respected history in the area and heā€™s got the biggest and nicest personality that WV has to offer. He was fascinated to hear that there was someone blogging about this lifeā€¦these skillsā€¦and caring enough to teach them to others. ā€œIā€™ve got to see this for myself!! ā€œ I guess he didā€¦without pants. LOL. Iā€™d given anything to see his face. This big personality is not often shocked into silence.
Tonight, I found out my husband has registered me for a retreat as my birthday present. I canā€™t wait to meet Suzanne in person and thank her for my daily dose of the farm and for being ..REAL.

I have to admit that I do that, too, but behind a five ft. wooden privacy fence. Hopefully, I’ve not been caught….

  12. Sue, a Florida Farm Girl says:

Gotta laugh about that one. I live at the end of the road up the mountain, too. I’ve been caught wandering around outside in my nightie. Dang people who park on the road and walk down the driveway!!

What a funny story, let just hope he keeps it “real” when he retells it to all of his friends.
P.S.—I hate to ask, but was he cute? šŸ˜‰

  15. Virginia Farmgirl says:

I think no pants and your shotgun across your lap would have been even funnier!

You just never know who might show up on your door step.
