I really like it, I think it will stand out on the shelves.
I worked for Waldenbooks 11 years. Just looking at a Silhouette romance, I can actually remember what the paper and the ink would smell like when I opened up a shipping box!
Okay, here’s what I think. I think the “Seeing is believing…” tag is really cool and really fits the book. There are some really weird paranormal events in this book. It’s weirder than The Beast Within, and “Seeing is believing” is definitely true in this book. I don’t know what that snake-like stuff is at the top. There aren’t any snakes in the book–but there are some ancient stones with all kinds of patterns and images, so that could be representative of those–in fact, I’m pretty sure that’s what they took that from because I emailed them some photos of the type of engraved stones that were in the book. That does look some kind of ruins like Macchu Picchu at the bottom. There are some ruins in the book at the top of a mountain but I didn’t describe them quite like that, but that’s okay. There’s an island and a jungle and a cave in the book, but I’m not really sure what all the things are in the artwork because I can’t quite see it well enough here. I’ll have to wait until I actually have the cover in my hands to see it better. But overall, the cover images fit the story, and that doesn’t always happen, so I’m thrilled about that!
In the midst of some very weird events, the story is also very romantic, though, and so what scares me about the cover is that it looks so sci-fi/fantasy that I wonder if romance readers will be attracted to it?? It doesn’t look like any SIM cover I’ve ever seen. But I love that it’s so different and cool and eye-catching. I think it will stand out, and standing out is good. I think. I hope!
Overall, I’m just very excited that they’re giving the PAX books such mainstreamy, cool covers!! I’m happy with the cover–in fact, I’m excited about the cover–but I’m a little scared of it at the same time. But the PAX books themselves are risky stories, so hey, why not risky covers? I’m game!
Paranormal type romances are a big thing at my bookstore – really big sellers, so I don’t think there will be any problem with the sci/fi look. And the catch phrase “Seeing is believing …” will really catch the eyes of aforementioned readers.
My attempt at anarchy at Jill’s blog is failing. :whip:
It’s a very impressive cover though I’m also a little puzzled by the “barbershop” pole with the snake wound around it. Is there anything medical in the book? But I guess that staff would be vertical not horizontal. It is very different from any other SIM cover I’ve seen–there were very distinctive covers but in other ways before.
I also think that it’s very eye-catching and mysterious. Hope it will bring you new readers.:thumbsup:
