I adapt this recipe because I cannot get the Chex cereals here but any similar unsweetened cereal works well.  I often use Cheerios, Shreddies, and a local organic wheat cereal.  I like to use a variety of shapes and flavors in the cereals I choose, making sure that the combination adds up to 9 cups of cereal.

3 cups Corn Chex cereal

3 cups Rice Chex cereal

3 cups Wheat Chex cereal

1 cup mixed nuts (I usually leave out the mixed nuts)

I cup bite-size pretzels

I cup garlic-flavor bite-sized bagel chips or regular-size bagel chips, broken into 1-inch pieces (if you can't find bagel chips use any hard small crackers)

6 tablespoons butter or margarine

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 teaspoos seasoned salt

3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Oven Directions Heat oven to 250°F. In large bowl, mix cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips; set aside. In ungreased large roasting pan, melt butter in oven. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in cereal mixture until evenly coated. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes. Store in airtight container.

Chex Mix is a Christmas tradition in my house – comes first over anything else in the treat list.

If we didn't make anything else, we always made Chex Mx. Just 2 hours ago my pregnant daughter wanted to know if we can make it before Thanksgiving instead if waiting LOL. We will make about 8 gallons of it when we do. We eat a bunch but much gets bagged and gifted. I like to put rye bagel chips in when I can find them. I also add soy sauce and a bit of celery salt.

I just made some of this yesterday – Same recipe, except for the bagel chips!  I never thought about putting bagel chips in it, but I think I will have to pick some up for next time I make it.

The bagel chips aren't necessary but they are good. Garlic or rye especially. I finally had to make a small batch with just Chex and pretzels Friday night. Pregnant daughter had pregnant friend/neighbor over and they were waiting for me to get home. Friend didn't know you can make your own Chex mix LOL.
