This sounds like a good drink for these cold evenings.

Hot Buttered Rum Batter

1 pound butter
1 pound powdered sugar
1 pound brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 quart French-vanilla ice cream, softened
1-1/2 ounces rum, optional
boiling water
nutmeg

Cream together the butter, powdered sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ice cream.  Freeze until needed. To serve, place the rum and 2 to 3 tablespoons batter into a mug or cup.  Fill with boiling water. Sprinkle with nutmeg if desired.

Am wondering just how important it is that it be ice cream.  I don't have ice cream but do have vanilla soy milk and everything else the recipe calls for.   Hmmm.  Probably a viscocity issue, but I, too, am getting very anxious to try this.  What if I don't like it?   Surprised

And Leah – this is just hot buttered rum, or rather the batter to make a bunch of them one at a time.  Hot toddies are usually made with whiskey, aren't they?

I'm sitting here enjoying a Hot Buttered Rum!!  It is quite tasty!  I'm using a dark rum, so it's quite bold.  Nice and frothy.

This recipe makes alot!!!!  It made 8 cups of batter, and with my calculations, this is going to make 42 drinks!!!  I guess my 1/5 of rum will just about do it!

And I think this batter, which tastes quite good by itself, would make a nice fancy coffee as well!

Here's another one  – I had it stashed on the computer – have not made this myself

Hot Buttered Rum

1 pound butter — softened
2 pounds light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon allspice

Combine, beat on medium speed for one hour, scraping bowl every 15 minutes.

Pour into 2 quart container, refrigerate or freeze.

To serve, put about 3 tablespoons and a cinnamon stick in a mug, add
boiling water to fill the cup, and a generous shot of dark rum.
Garnish with pat of butter.

If common sense were truly common, wouldn't there be more evidence of it?

I do not see how the rum could possibly be optional. No
