Pretzel Salad

(warning!  this is in NO WAY a salad!)

2 c. crushed pretzel sticks
3/4 c. melted butter
3 tbsp. sugar

8 oz. cream cheese
1 c. sugar

8 oz. Cool Whip

1 (6 oz.) pkg. strawberry banana Jell-O (or strawberry, or raspberry)
2 c. boiling water
2 (10 oz.) pkgs. frozen strawberries, (or raspberries, or some of each) partially thawed

Mix first three ingredients and press in bottom of a 9″x13″ pan. Bake at 350 degrees (metal pan) or 325 degrees (glass pan) 8 minutes.  (watch cause it burns easy) Let cool completely!  (In fact, best to do the the night before)

Beat 1 cup sugar and cream cheese. Fold in Cool Whip. Spread over pretzels.

Mix Jello and water until dissolved. Add strawberries. Stir into Jello, then set aside for 10 minutes to let it jell just a tiny bit. Pour over cheese mixture. Chill.

Everyone loves this, it's gotta be horribly unhealthy but it must have something to do with the sweet/salty thing again.  WHY oh WHY do we love that so much!

If tomatoes are a fruit, then isn’t ketchup technically a

smoothie?

Oh it IS very very good! Use strawberry jello and strawberries – well that's my favorite version LOL.

The pretzel crust with the creamy filling and the berry stuff…… oh yeah!

I have made this for years and it is fabulous.  You will never know the crust is pretzels – it really almost taste like pecans.  I think it can serve as a dessert.

Heh, I don't see how it could honestly be considered anything BUT desert!  I'd love to know how anyone thought they could get away with calling it 'salad'.  I think they were either delusional or hoping to pull the wool over their friend's eyes just after some joint New Years resolution to eat nothing but salads or something.

"Oh Betty, it's a salad!  You know, some strawberries and jell-O, and pretzels!  Pretzels are no-fat and all, you know that right?"

Good ol' Betty was picturing that lime jello ring with carrots and celery thinking that her pal was right on the New Years diet track.

OK, I'm almost done laughing now, hopefully the coffee I spewed won't ruin my keyboard    It really is disgustingly fantastic Suzanne.  I can't claim credit for it, this has been making the rounds of potlucks around here for years.  Like I said, if it shows up, it's gone as fast as word spreads that it's on the table.

Yes, has been around for years and everywhere I have seen it show up, folks swoon and hover.

Seriously it's that good. Like Deb said it's that sweet and salty…. and then there's the creamy and the berryful…… LOL
