I made up my own brown sugar scrub today !!  Frugal and it's wonderful……. it can be jarred up to give as pampering gifts anytime of the year!  For my own use, I just put it in an empty shampoo bottle so I can squeeze it out…….

Brown Sugar Scrub

1 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Sweetened Almond Oil
1 tsp Vitamin E (I cut open a couple Vitamin E liquid gel caps)
1/2-1 tsp Vanilla Extract

I started back in Feb using my own made ones, they leave your skin fabulous…….and cheaply made!!

For natural preservatives, use a couple capsules of vitamin e (plus it's good for skin!)

Great gift idea indeed.  (Cindy's on the Christmas Swap list.  Anyone want to drop a hint??)

I love this stuff, but always manage to forget to take it into the shower with me!  I have one of the warm vanilla sugar that I bought for myself, a friend gave me a rosemary scented sea salt scrub.  That sea salt one is especially nice in the summer, while the warm vanilla sugar one feels great in the winter.

Great gifrt idea! So, the vitamin E is a preservative? How long does it keep without it?

It'll keep quite awhile without — the 1st time I made it, I didn't use it and it was fine for the time it took for me to use it up in the shower.  But I have Vit E (Mom buys it by the HUGE bottle), so I used it in the ones I am selling.

I love the brown sugar / vanilla scrub Cindy.  I made one batch and I've used 1/2 myself already.  I'm looking for 1/2 pint jars today to see if I can make some for gifts.  thanks for the recipe!

Barb, I found some of the squat new Ball Elite jars that size at Target and at Walmart, if that helps.

I had no idea that you could make something like this!

I have psoriasis and just bet this would be sooooo soothing for my sensitive skin.   I bet I could use it on my head too.  I have psoriasis on the head and that vitamin E added to it would be really soothing I think.

I'm going to give it a try!

Dede- my WM did not have any 1/2 pints and I don't have a Target closer than an hour so I'm going to check at the hardware stores tomorrow.

Good stuff!

Also, those rubbermaid single serving bowls with screw on lids would be great, too!  Those are 8 oz also!  At Dollar Gen they are quite reasonable and cheaper than the jars!  Tye a ribbon around and they would be cute!

I bought some Vit E at Walmart, a small bottle for less than $5, and made some body scrub with the recipe on the previoius page. I made two small batches, one with vanilla and one with maple. I assume any extract will do? I bet almond extract would smell wonderful too! I got some small country seal top jars at the dollar store and am making labels to tie on with raffia now. If I can get some bigger jars tomorrow I will make more! Thanks for the great idea!! I am going to try some maple myself. I love maple anything!

I bought almond extract for my next batch.  I think the little Christmas dishes that are made for cookies (very small – maybe 4 – 6 cookies would fit) with the snap on lid might work ok for gifts too.  I'm leaning toward this for more gifts for the ladies that work for me.  Plus I love what it does for my feet!

Just made the vanilla brown sugar scrub! I found the elite ball 8oz jars with the brushed silver lids to put them in. I'll tie ribbons that say Merry Christmas around them. I'm so excited to give them as gifts and keep one for myself,of course! I timed the recipe (second one listed) times 6.The amt was just right for the 8 jars. I added 3 teaspoons vanilla to the batch, because I wanted it a little more vanilla scented. Thanks for the recipe Cindy!Happy Flower

I have previously bought my brown sugar scrub and now just finding this recipe.  I have one question – where do I find the small canning jars for the scrub?  Is there a place online.  Canning jars are hard to find except during canning season which is in the middle of the summer.

Looking forward to making this after the first of the year.

Canning and dehydrating will now become a part of my life.

Ticka, are you wanting to make them for sale or for personal use?  You can use any container.  Recycle some cute little jars that come through the house.  The wide mouth salsa jars would be cute.  Just spray paint the lid if you want (just outside, not inside) and put a couple layers of clear sealer on, or decoupage a picture on the lid………ideas are endless!

But re: where to find canning jars.  Walmart, a hardware store.  All of the store here still have a big stock of canning supplies Yes
