My house is small, 1200 sq. feet, so my kitchen is not huge. It doesn't have a ton of counter space and limited ways to get any more. On one counter I had my microwave oven, on another my toaster oven. I decided that the microwave is not a necessity in my life, or so I am hoping. I used it mostly for reheating ….. now I am resorting to heating things on the stove top. It has given me a lot more counter space which makes me happy.

Good for you! Your stove top and the toaster oven should be more than adequate to heat up stuff. I find that my microwave is used to heat up day old coffee, boil the occasional cup of water for tea, and that's about it.
I'm contemplating donating mine to Goodwill or something.

I haven't gone that far yet ….. its in the closet. I did use it for heating up coffee …… now I have to drink it all before it cools !! LOL

My microwave sits ontop of my portable dishwasher(that I never use). But I use my microwave ALL the time. Not putting mine away anytime soon!

My microwave is in the pantry. I hardly ever use it and it's convenient there. I don't have a lot of counter space either, so I would never waste it on the microwave oven!

Couldn't live without the microwave! (Well, of course we could, but you know what I mean!) We heat all sorts of things in it, but then we eat a lot of leftovers. Have tried over the years to train us to use it more because it uses less energy than the regular stove. (Does anyone happen to know if that is still true? It was 10 years ago or so when I checked that out with the electric company.)
We heat soups and things like that frequently. Butter for most things that call for melted butter – in the same mixing bowl that other ingredients will be added in. The list goes on and on! We've even made brownies and cakes in it!
I put off getting one for many years, and then only used it to heat water. But now, in retirement, we are actually cooking (and reheating) at home, so it is used at least a couple of times a day, sometimes many, many times. We even have two, with something in each of them an amazing amount of the time.

That is one of the beauties of this community, bee. Just because one of us does and one of us doesn't (whether it's using a microwave or something else) doesn't mean there is a right and a wrong way! Everyone throws out what works for them, and we all get to figure out for ourselves which parts of what everyone else does work for us. I love it!
(OK – true confession time – I'm still on some drugs, so may be a bit sappy for a while…)
Well, the above statement does NOT apply to things like food safety. There are some rules about that sort of thing that we all need to pay attention to. Since we are all perfect, we do that naturally, right?  Like, I am not allowed to handle knives right now…

OK! But, you have to remember that I am one of the laziest people you've ever known! If it's mess you can make and walk away from, I'm in, but not so much for making a mess that I then have to clean up!
Would it work to put the Peep on a plate then cover it with a very large glass bowl? At least the mess would be somewhat contained…
(Cheating here a little bit because I heat marshmallows on chocolate bars on graham crackers frequently, so already know the potential for Peep abuse in this plan.)

Something seems so very wrong about using actual Peeps chicks. We should probably start a sub-group just for that. I mean REALLY! Admitting to abuse of a chick? And encouraging others to do the same? OK – technically – you did attempt to recruit me to abuse a goblin figure instead…so I guess we are still safe…

Wrong! There is an actual peeps site on-line and I'm sure they would be quite mortified at peep mutilation. And you are right, there may be a counseling group for that.
Isn't it amazing how many darn peeps there are these days? It really is criminal – they are gross to eat.

For sure the tea water has to be boiled and I should learn to make less coffee but I use a french press and making a full pot makes the best coffee …. and I hate throwing it out even when its cold.

Johnzegirl, I know so many twisted, warped and just downright weird websites that it'd make your pretty hair frizzle up in dismay. Most are not very nice nor very polite but naetheless they make me snort coffee out of my nose on a regular basis. I'm a sucker for twisted humor.
I'll have to state right now that I'm far from ladylike, which explains my love for the poo-ing pony.
