Garden Art - Repurposed Oddities

Had a Eureka! moment last year in the garden and simply must share.  And am hoping that others will add more ideas for things they are using for garden art, or simply finding a new function in the garden for something intended for another use.

It started with a couple of pots I had planted with some pretty flowers.  The chickens (they are always sooo helpful at times like this!) immediately jumped into the pots and tried to rearrange what I had just planted.

Just happened to have several of those old style canning racks begging to be repurposed in residence that looked about the same size as the tops of the pots.  Turned them upside down over the pots, with the “handles” hanging over the sides of the pots.  And it worked!

The chickens still pecked a bit at the soil in the pots, but no more digging in them.  And the racks were easily removed after the plants got settled in and a bit bigger.

Hurray!  Worked well.  And looked somewhere between whimsical and funky – an OK look in my garden.

Anyone else have some pleasant surprises in their gardens or yards?

happy-flowerI picked up 4 tomato cages last year that were curb side, stacked them all together fastened them with a bit of wire at the top to make a point and spray painted the whole thing with black paint, got a rubber ball at the dollar store, glued it to the top to the point and sprayed it black, put it in among my flowers. Have done the same thing for the Holidays and wrapped them in twinkle lights for the porch.

Joell, I love the idea for your tomato cages. There are several in our “junk” area just waiting for an idea to come along. Tomorrow morning they will undergo a marvelous transformation to garden art. Thanks for a great idea. happy-feet
